Insignia 55 TV connecting to mysterious headphones?

I bought my 55 inch tv a year and a half ago and the other day, while watching TV, it switched to headphones and I lost all sound. I completly reset the TV to factory settings, which fixed the problem for about 15 minutes then it switched to headphones again. Is there anything I can do to keep it from switching to headphones from the speakers? I have never hooked up headphones...I am at a loss at this point. Thanks!

Re: Insignia 55 TV connecting to mysterious headphones?

Hey, Dawn,

Noticing that my TV is connecting to pair of headphones randomly would be a bit weird. Thank you for posting to us about this and for joining our community. We’d be happy to see what advice we can share with you, at this time.

Can you please share the model number of your TV? I’d be happy to suggest a few settings to check. It’s possible that something could’ve gotten bumped. Alternatively, have you tried to power cycle your TV? You’re able to do this by unplugging your TV from power and any other components (dvd player, cable box, etc.) you had connected. Then after a few minutes plug everything back in and together. We look forward to hearing from you to continue to help you troubleshoot.

Respectfully,

Re: Insignia 55 TV connecting to mysterious headphones?

Hi Mariah,

The model number is NS-55DR620NA18. I have tried cycling the TV, I have reset all settings. It comes back to normal only for it to go back to headphones again after a period of time. One time it was about 10 minutes (after complete reset) and another time I watched TV for several hours only to go to bed and turn it on the next day to have it on headphones again (after just a audio reset). I turned it off and that evening I turned it back on and sure enough I had sound again. I tried calling Best Buy but because it is out of warranty and I didn't purchase a protection plan, they said I needed to take it to a TV repair. Super frustrating considering I bought it in November 2017.

Re: Insignia 55 TV connecting to mysterious headphones?

I want to add that I hadn't touched the TV in months before this started happening so I cannot imagine something getting bumped. I ended up buying a new TV with a protection plan, but if I can fix this one, that would be idea. Hopefully my new one (LG model) doesn't come with a headphone jack because I don't want to deal with this again!

Re: Insignia 55 TV connecting to mysterious headphones?

Hey, Dawn,

We appreciate the further insight you shared with us. I’d be happy to make a few recommendations for you.

Are you resetting the TV using the menu options or the button on the back of it? We recommend holding down the button on the back of the TV, should be right above the headphone input, for 15 seconds.

In the TV’s settings, you can ensure the TV speakers are on by following the prompts below:

On the Home menu, press up or down arrows to highlight Settings, then press OK. Highlight Audio, then press OK. Highlight TV speakers, then press OK. Press OK to ensure that the TV speakers enabled is checked.

The TV doesn’t have blu-tooth capabilities so it shouldn’t be an interference problem, however, we’ve heard of similar issues on other model across many brands in the past. When the issue occurs, are you able to pinpoint another electrical occurrence? Say a dishwasher is started, a light switch turned on, you receive a text message, etc. Like I had noted, it’s possible but uncommon situation.
