I purchased the Samsung HW-R450 soundbar because the volume on my new Samsung 8 series 65 inch TV is not that good (I have to turn it up to almost 50 for normal sound from the TV speakers) With this new soundbar, it is not that much better. I still basically have the same issue. I have to turn the volume up to 45+ to hear dialogue clearly (hearing dialogue well is my main problem). Is there a recommendation for a soundbar that would do better? Thank you.

Good Morning, moffettl,
Welcome to our community! Thank you for your post regarding your TV sound issues to us and for your patience as you had waited for our reply. I’d be happy to make a recommendation after checking a few things first.
On average a regular TV will have between 20-40 Watts available for sound. Can you please share how you have your HW-R450 soundbar connected? Also, can you please double check that you have your internal TV speakers turn off? I’m not positive, but it’s possible the issues you’re experiencing without a drastic improvement in sound quality is set-up based not product based. The Samsung HW-R450 is capable of putting out 200 Watts for sound. I look forward to your reply.

It's set up with the optical cable and the TV sound source is set to soundbar. This soundbar barely helps my issue of having to raise the volume to about 45-50 for normal sound. Thank you.

That’s odd! What model of TV do you have it connected to? It’s possible in the settings menu we may need to change the kind of sound the TV is processing.

I took a peek into manual for the new Samsung 8000RU series and it notes that there are other options available for configuration of sound. This is noted on page 101 of that manual and can be found here.
Also, it notes that the sound available for these advanced preferences perform best using the HDMI 1 ARC features. Have you tried to connect it with ARC instead of the optical digital cable? I just want to ensure that we’re covering all our bases so the issue doesn’t keep happening even if you’d reselect your soundbar.

I’d recommend looking into the Samsung HW-550. It would be the step-up from what you have currently, and the design and features are very similar. It has a peek handling of 320W. This would be giving you more power to really get the volume up. Also, please note the numbering system differs from your TV to your soundbar in terms of “sound level”.
