So I bought the Sony Blu-Ray Ultra 4k UBP-x800 back in 2017 when I bought my sony tv. It worked great. I barely have used it over the last few years because of on-demand and streaming etc. I tried using it recently and when I turn it on, it flashes the sony logo for half a second then its black. The TV recognizes that the player is on but its just black. It wont play sound, or any disks.
The stall tactics that Sony does for customer service didnt help, like unplugging and reseting etc. I tried different HDMI cords, and tried different TVs. I saw on the sony community page a lot of other people have the same issue but no one has a solution. I assume it was some glitch in an automatic update and sony doesnt want to admit it. Anyone else have any advice? I am past warranty and my extended warranty. Definitely buying a different brand next time

Welcome to our community! We’re sorry to hear that your Sony Blu-Ray player is on the fritz. I understand how that could be a tad frustrating since you didn’t get the opportunity to use it much recently.
Our troubleshooting suggestions would probably mirror that of Sony’s help line and forum community. That said, upon reviewing Sony’s website I can see they have some Software/Firmware Update and Troubleshooting and Errors guides that were recently updated in August. I’d highly recommend checking out those resources if you haven’t already. You can review them here. Alternatively, you could try to reset the player back to factory settings and not allow the device to update to the current versions of software.

Thanks for clarifying the issue for me! I apologize if I had misunderstood the issue. It appears there are no pin-hole reset options for this model according to the manual. I understand that puts you in a tight spot with your player. Please let us know if you have any questions on the replacement device, and we’d be happy to help!
