Samsung 4k UHD 50" NU50NU7100FZXA black bars faded screen

Hello,

I bought my TV 18 months ago and over the past two weeks it has had a growing black bar at center and far left of screen. Today my screen is faded at center with no visible desplay at far left side. When I put a flash light to the screen I can see picture. Also from center right to far left, what picture is visible has a flicker to it. So I am getting something. Is it possible that my backlights are going out? Or my T-con board is having connection issues? How do I fix this?

Thanks for reaching out with your TV issue! I understand how alarming those black bars could be on your TV. I’d be looking for similar advice if I were in your shoes.

 

We’d be unable to recommend technical advice on how to complete the repair yourself. Do you by chance have a Geek Squad Protection Plan? If you do, our Geek Squad agents should be able to visit your home and check it out. While checking out the screen with your flash light do you see any impact damage? The fact that the black bars are growing is tad concerning and can indicate physical damage is present. If physical damage is present, that would be something is not covered by a Geek Squad Protection plan (if you have one).

No unfortunately I don't have GSPP. However upon flashlight check I can still see active picture, so it appears my backlights are failing. My TV has no indication of possible impact damage anywhere. How much would I cost to sign up for protection for our tv or is it too late?

Also as of last night I only can see backlight 1/4 the of my TV now. Samsung states they will pay for part but not the repair work....I am very flustered with the situation. I have gone back to using my 10+ year old Vizio which works great still. I am very disappointed in my Samsung tbh. Thank you for any help you can give me.

I can definitely relate to your frustration over this experience given your TV was most likely an investment and you hadn't anticipated to run into these issues.

 

Geek Squad Protection plans would need to be purchased during same time-frame of when you had purchased your TV. (It’s also possible to add the plan during your Return & Exchange Promise too.) Geek Squad at (800) 433-5778 would be happy to give you an estimate or a ballpark figure on how much the repair may cost. In total transparency, it’s possible that replacing the TV may be more cost effective than moving forward with a repair.
