Rewards points stolen by someone in Maryland


I got 3 emails yesterday stating that reward certificates were issued around 8:48pm ($100,$100, and $50)..  I logged onto my account late last night when I saw these emails and found an order receipt that someone went to a Best buy store and redeemed my certificates in Hanover, MD at 8:58pm.  (I live in Connecticut)..    They purchased a Nintendo switch lite-yellow, some nintendo switch video game, and some small item to get the total to just over $250..


I contacted Chat, but they were honestly of no help and told me to go to the store and speak with someone there about the incident.  I asked about calling customer service and they gave me the elite plus phone number and said the number would be staffed at 7am.  I tried calling, but line is not open yet (must be 7am in some different time zone)...


I changed my best buy account password..   

My best buy account password and email passwords are different, so I highly doubt someone hacked both of them..  What does someone need in order to be able to steal my points..


Funny thing is, that several days ago, I reached out on these forums as I was missing reward points from a credit card promotion.   The bestbuy individual I worked with was great and managed to get the missing points allocated..  But then all of a sudden someone hacks my account!...


Hopefully this phone number opens up soon so that I can figure out what to do..


I also noticed that the store receipt which I can access from my account online has the serial number of the Nintendo Switch..   Hope they can somehow use that to catch this criminal...

Welcome back to the forum, though I wish you had returned under better circumstances! Finding certificates were redeemed without your authorization would have me concerned as well, so I'm glad you've reached out to see what may have happened, and what options we may have for you. 


While we may only speculate how your account may have been compromised, we want to ensure your account is secured. If you haven't already, I would strongly encourage you to not only change your password to, but also the password to the associated email address. Please also keep an eye on your inbox in the top right corner of the page, as I am sending you a private message shortly to look further into this with you.
