Promotional certificate return

Today was the first time I used a promotional certificate from my Best Buy credit card. They sent it to me after I fulfilled a certain spending requirement. Unfortunately I have to return the item because my son said I got an incorrect one. I came here to search about returns -- to my surprise and horror, the value of promotional certificate cannot be refunded?! Please help. I really don't want to lose my promotional certificate. I honestly didn't know they are treated differently from reward certificates. It was confusing but now I understand. I still have my purchase, what should I do? I would like to return it and get the right one for my son, but I fear I would lose my hard earned certificate. Thank you very much.

Welcome to our forums!  There’s a multitude of benefits to the My Best Buy™ Credit Card, and although it sounds like your recent experience with your card has left a sour taste in your mouth, I’m happy to hear you’re a cardholder.

 

As it sounds like you’re aware, promotional certificates issued by Citibank are a bit different from the traditional reward certificate.  As outlined in the My Best Buy FAQ, whenever returning your purchase to us, the points associated with your reward certificate are returned to your account, after your return is processed.  Because there are not points associated with these promotional certificates, there are no points to credit back to your account.  Additionally, promotional certificates are intended to be a one-time use, and cannot be reissued.
