Insignia Voice Portable Speaker -- How to see battery level!?!

As far as I can tell, there is no way to find out what % the battery is at.  Am I missing something?  A way to see through the google Home app, or a third party app, or a question you can ask the speaker?

I'd highly recommend if none of the above, a voice query for battery level or some way to publish to google home app, is highly necessary.  Seems a critical missing feature if it isn't there -- every other battery powered device has an on-device indication, or can 'speak' the level, or has a way for a remote connected device to show the level.

Thanks!

Re: Insignia Voice Portable Speaker -- How to see battery level!?!

Greetings DavidChait,

Welcome to our community! Knowing when you plug in your Insignia Portable Voice Speaker is important. Thanks for reaching out to us for advice on how to check your battery level. We’d be happy to point you in the correct direction.

Can you please confirm which model of speaker you have? You should be able to press all three buttons on top repeatedly, and the battery level should appear on the portable versions of our speakers. Let us know if this doesn’t work on your speaker, and we’d be happy to see how we can help.

Respectfully,

Re: Insignia Voice Portable Speaker -- How to see battery level!?!

Hey Mariah -

That works!  I see "Bat 100" on the LCD.  Is that "secret handshake" mentioned in the docs somewhere, and I just missed it?  Are there any other similar "bonus features" other than that and volume and temperature that output something on the display?

Also, I understand that the approximate life of battery is five hours.  Is that five hours PLAYING MUSIC?  If so, do you have approximate life if no music is playing?  Wondering if it can run the clock and core cpu/OS for say an overnight 8-10h power loss and still have enough juice to play alarm in the morning?  (Aside from purely-battery travel clocks, it's hard to find devices with clock/alarm that are reasonably guaranteed to last overnight and ensure they'll wake someone up on-time in the morning!)  Clearly I can empirically test this, unplugging it and roughly watching to see when the clock vanishes and it is out of power -- but would love if you have benchmark data/specs.

Thanks, when on sale (at similar or lower pricepoint than a Home) it seems an absolute steal with portability/battery, clock, and real woofer for audio quality way beyond home/mini.

Regards,

Re: Insignia Voice Portable Speaker -- How to see battery level!?!

And while I'm asking, is there a reason the speaker is still generating its own wifi network post-setup?  My other devices can see it, and it is unsecured, which is asking for a hacker to try and hack into it and get into a home network.

thanks!!

Re: Insignia Voice Portable Speaker -- How to see battery level!?!

Hi DavidChait,

Thanks for reaching out to us for some follow-up questions. I’d be happy to help you answer them.

Our Q&A for the product on BestBuy.com is chalk full of information, and can often times be a fastest way to find the answers you’re looking for. For example here’s the one for model NS-CSPGASP2. Using the information present on BestBuy.com and in the manual. Your speaker should last 5 hours, but customers have been able to get 4 hours out of it playing music continuously and 90 minutes playing music at the loudest volume.

Additionally, can you please try to delete the independent network your speaker created then try to resync it using the Google Home Application?

Re: Insignia Voice Portable Speaker -- How to see battery level!?!

Thanks.  I gave up and did a full reset on the speaker.  Found someone else's comment about turning on airplane mode, then re-enabling wifi, before trying to set up.  Those two combined did the trick.  I've had it oddly lose network connectivity once (on a very good network) in the last few days, but otherwise it and it's clone are functioning very well.
