Re: Reward certificate fraud

I've had points stolen now 4 times.

The first time I called support and they gave me the location of the store in New York for the purchase.  I called the store manager and she said she had the tapes and would look into it.  I was given the points back but wanted to find out what happen.  Apparently they were used for some gift card purchases in stores.  Apparently you dont need ID to use someone else's points.  Change email addresss, password.

After points were reinstated - the same thing happens form a store in Michigan - store not so helpfull.  Points reinstated a couple of weeks later.  Change email addres password, and phone number.

I quickly use my points ...

Thrid time for the $250+ of points i didnt use - were emptied.  Couldn't get the store they were used at from customer service.  Tired of trying to play detective.  Agent suggested using a keywork to use points - setup keyword.  Change phone, email, password and now have keyword.

Purchase new appliaances - get more points - still yet to get any points from third incident.

Fourth time - account emptied.  Agent says he will fill out form - on hold now for 5 minutes .... he can't find out what store this happened.

I love BestBuy and it kills me that someone is taking advange of this - this must be fixed.  The fraud always happens in store with the purchase of some gift cards.  Please fix this issue!

Re: Reward certificate fraud

Totally agree with you... BESTBUY has to fix it.... The fraud always happens in store... just your phone number will access your account and redeem all your rewards.... that need to change and stop .... it so so frustrating and unacceptable.

Re: Reward certificate fraud

Hello, royvera-

Welcome to Best Buy online community. There is a sense of uncertainty that comes with finding out that the My Best Buy certificates you had been saving up, are no longer available. I am disheartened to learn that your account without your consent, not once but four times, and has brought you to visit this forum.

I understand that you have partnered with most of the stores, but would like a permit solution to avoid these types of incidents in the future. I would dislike that this be the cause of you questioning your future relationship with Best Buy and therefore will be happy to review your account to see how I can help.

I appreciate that you have changed your phone number, email address, and phone number. When you get a moment, send me a private message with your name, email address, MyBestBuy member number, and phone number. To send me a message, log into the forum, and select the 'Private Message' option from my signature.

Thank you for your time,

Re: Reward certificate fraud

I had the same thing happen a few months ago. Filed an identity theft police report and everything.
They changed all my info, cashed out my points and bought over 300 in merch in my name.
Refunded me my points but it makes me worried how much of my info is tampered with at best buy
