I just called the Bend OR Best Buy and was automatically forwarded to an operator who "takes calls for all the stores in Oregon". Below is what I asked:
I have never purchased anything at Best Buy.
I am planning to come in and buy a $2000 laptop.
Will this laptop have the 30 day return policy that Elite members recieve as it is above the $1500 membership qualification?
Even though this is my first purchase at Best Buy?
PLEASE CLARIFY. THANKS!

Welcome to our community, and thank you for considering Best Buy for your upcoming laptop purchase! As a first-time shopper, this is an excellent question.
The short answer is both yes and no. It can take 15-20 days after a qualifying purchase is made for points to post to your account and for your tier status to update (e.g.: from Core to Elite status). Once your account reaches Elite status, you’d begin receiving your Elite benefits on future purchases, but it would not apply to the purchase that pushed you over the threshold to qualify for for Elite status.
That said, your return and exchange window is based upon your account standing at the time your request is made. Once your account had upgraded to Elite status, you’d be able to request a return or exchange within 30 days of the purchase. Keep in mind that if you returned the product entirely, or if you exchanged it for an item that would set you below the required spending amount for Elite status, your account would be changed back to the Core tier.
