My Best Buy account is $73 away from Elite and the year is almost over. Last week I returned a Nintendo Switch and purchased it again because I bought it a few days before they offered the $25 gift card. My account didn't show that I repurchased it for a while and my points went into the negative. Now it shows that one was returned and repurchased, but my points are still in the negative. I have 98 pending, but i think that's from the PSVR. Can someone over there tell me if there's something missing that can be added to get me to the next checkpoint? I'd hate to come within less than $100 of Elite just to have it reset in a few days.

The goal of reaching Elite or Elite Plus status is one that many members have, including myself. This year, like many others, I have failed. My wife has started to scope out some new kitchen appliances, so my fingers are crossed for 2019. You would need to spend $1,500 on eligible purchases within a single calendar year to qualify for Elite status with the end of the 2018 calendar year only a few days away. Please keep in mind when looking over your spend total that sales tax is excluded, any portion of a purchase paid for with a gift card or certificate is excluded, and it can take up to 20 days for an eligible purchase to reflect.
If you have any purchase with points that are still pending, then that purchase is not likely reflected yet. Any purchase made between now and the end of the calendar year is not likely to reflect in your spending total before the start of the 2019 calendar year when all spending totals are reset to $0. Any eligible purchase made in 2018 should still count towards the spending total for 2018 though. Basically, take your current spending total and add the pre-tax total for any pending or upcoming purchases. It may take up to 20 days after spending the required $1,500 for your status to be upgraded to Elite. The best thing to have at this time of the year is a little patience.
As far as the Nintendo Switch, points were likely deducted from your rewards account following the return. That is rather common. Did you redeem any certificates that were issued after the initial purchase but before the return? If so, then that could potentially explain why your balance went negative. The repurchase should result in those deducted points being credited though as long as you paid the same way. I would be happy to take a closer look at your rewards account to ensure it is up-to-date if you were to send me a private message with the information listed below. Happy New Year!

I was very close to reaching Elite status by the end of 2018, but I still had some pending points. I posted a question asking about the procedure with that and a representative told me that even if the points were still pending after the new year they would count towards my 2018 purchases. I also asked about some missing points. I bought a nintendo switch without using credits or giftcards and then had to exchange it. They processed the exchange by returning it, putting the money on a gift card, and buying it again. Which took the points off my account. I cantacted a repesentative on here again and they put those points back on. I watched very carfully the last month of the year and I know I spent enough. So what happened? Am I just not seeing where it says I'm Elite?
