Stereo Installation USB

I purchased a stereo with CarPlay and was advised to buy an additional USB port. Unknowingly to my surprise the rep who installed my stereo deactivated the manufacturers USB port to drill a hole and insert another one. I now have one inactive USB port. Is this normally practice? Couldn’t he had just install it to the current port without having me purchase another port? I’m going to go to the store to check in but wanted to see what’s the appropriate course of action here. I do not want an inactive USB port just being there. I’d like to have both of them active.

Re: Stereo Installation USB

I was in rush and should’ve asked more questions. But I believe the rep should’ve done a better job communicating as well.

Hi there, CrazyRav4,

Thank you for taking the time to visit us here on our community forums. I can imagine how exciting it would be to get a CarPlay stereo in your vehicle and I can understand wanting to use as many USB ports as possible. While I'm not very experienced with stereo installations I would be happy to take a deeper look in to this for you. I'll need a bit more information so I can continue to research this. Can you please send me a private message with your:

Re: Stereo Installation USB

I don't know what kind of car you have but 99 times out of a hundred the stock dash USB port is proprietary to the factory head unit and can not be used with an aftermarket deck. I'm sure the installer would have explained that if you had asked.
