Failed speaker install on Honda Accord

Ideally I would like my money back because the installation of car speakers was not successful, so I payed for a service that was not provided. And I can't waste any more of my time making appointments.

Came into Best Buy (Everett, MA) to speak with an auto-tech. Discussed speaker/amp install with vibration reduction in a 2013 Honda Accord. Purchased equipment based on recommendations from auto-tech. Then scheduled the following appointments, one after another:

  1. Installed vibration reduction and speakers but didn’t have enough time for the amp
  2. Installed amp but could not get the sub to work
  3. Set gain incorrectly and blew the front right speaker. Got the sub to work only at low power.
  4. Nothing accomplished. Front right speaker still blown and they hadn’t ordered another yet. Amp going into protect mode when attempt to power up sub. Ordered new speaker that was blown.
  5. Scheduled but never happened because speaker did not ship in less than 2 weeks. Ended up taking over a month reach them after many calls to find speaker is on back order so I need to order it myself through a 3rd party.

After over 3 months, system is now worse than before. I have spent about $1000 and 20 hours of my time, without a car, mostly on Saturdays.

What I really want is the $300+ installation charges refunded so I can take the car somewhere else to be finished.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nate

Re: Failed speaker install on Honda Accord

Sounds like you've been going through a lot to get the perfect sounding audio system, but keep coming up short.  I too would be frustrated if placed in a similar circumstance and I'm sorry to hear you've been unable to get the sound you initially were after 3 months later.  Our lifetime labor warranty should be able to assist you further with this, and knowing you've spent 100 more than our Total Tech Support that is offered, it's understandable to ask for help!

It sounds like everything was purchased from Best Buy, and with louder sound there is always a chance for things to blow/malfunction, however, we should be able to help out with replacing them and installing the system as it should be.  Knowing that you've put sound damping material down and also amplified your system for 4 speaker and a subwoofer, can you let me know if this is going to a factory head unit (radio) or aftermarket?

Are there any other shops around your area that you could take this vehicle to so that you can have another shop take a closer look?   Our installation fees are non refundable, but we have the lifetime labor warranty, and depending on the parts we should be able to replace them for you under the manufacturers warranty or Geek Squad Protection plans that may have been added.  If you could share the stores that are closest to you a moderator should be able to get in touch with this other location to see if they could find a time to have your vehicle looked over.

I am a CAR Geek Squad Autotech, but the views that I post are my own and not that of Best Buy.

Re: Failed speaker install on Honda Accord

Good afternoon, aparon,

Welcome to our forums, and thank you for sharing your experience with us.  Having issues with your car can be frustrating on their own, so to hear these issues have cost you so much of your time and still remain unresolved is especially disappointing.  As autotech796 has mentioned, we may not be able to offer a refund of the installation fees you’ve paid, however, I would like to look into this further, and offer any additional assistance I can.

I see you’ve sent a few colleagues of mine a private message with some additional information, and I’ll be replying to your messages shortly.  To read my message, you’ll want to be logged into your Support Forum account, and click on the orange envelope in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
