I have a 2013 Kia Optima SXL. I am trying to find out if the Viper VSS3001 is a complete system for remote start on my current car or if anything else is required to work correctly? Any other bypasses? relays? I want remote start utilizing my factory key fob and for the vehicle to continue running even after a door or trunk is opened. The factory remote start that can be installed shuts off once you open a door or the trunk, which is stuipid in my opinion. If i was to purchase the VSS3001 and have best buy install it, would that do what I am looking for with the option of also purchasing the service to control it from my iphone? I am currenlty deployed in afghanistan so i can not just go into the store to ask these questions and am trying to gather the information now to try to get it done either while i am deployed or soon as i get back, but will have limited time when i come back so trying to get all the answers now so i can just do it. thank you andrew

I can appreciate the difficulties in getting some answers to your questions about this remote start for your car while being deployed.
Regrettably, this isn’t something I can personally answer as I’m not an installation technician. Hopefully, one of our community members will be able to come by and help provide some insights into this for you.
Thanks for posting!

ok so im going to just throw in as much as i can in this post and hopefully it covers everything that you are looking for. As far as the vss3001, you will not be able to use that product, which IMO is a good thing lol. It seems like every vss3001 that i have heard about or installed personally has come back with issue of it not working to issues of it not doing certain features within a couple of days of being installed. the vss3001 is a viper remote start with the directed module "Dball2" all in one. it is the first one that directed electronics made with both the brain and the module together. The dball2 unfortunately doesn't do the takeover or even offer an option for your vehicle, which im assuming is a push to start. We do have a module that will allow you to have a remote start called an FLCAN. the Dball2 will only do covinience features such as lock, unlock, trunk, etc,. the flcan will do those same features and also the immobilizer that senses when the key is near by. the cool thing about the FLCAN also is that you will be able to do a secure takeover, according to the installation manual. that means that you will be able to open the door or trunk and it will still stay running, and you just have to get in and do the same sequence you always have when starting the car. Since i haven't worked on a kia optima 2013 i cannot verify that it is 100 percent, but usually when it says on the manual that it will do a secure takeover then you will be good. I have done a fair number of hyundais which are very similar and have had no problems when the manual says that it will do a secure takeover so you should be good to go.
with that said, you will have to go back to the drawing board for picking out a remote start. there isn't an option that will allow you just strictly use just your keyfob for start, so you will need that keyfob and another. are there any other features that you are looking for? the smart start with your phone also comes with a cost per month/year depending on the package that you choose, but can work with any of the viper remote starts. let me know if this doesn't sum up anything, and also let me know if i can assist you further into an option of remote starts. below are quick quotes of some of the systems to choose from with installation prices also just before tax is the only thing that is missing.
1 way single button 1500 foot range remote start only Viper 4115V1B 314.96 b/t
1 way remote start keyless entry 1500 foot range viper 4105VB 414.95 b/t
2 way remote start keyless entry 1 mile range viper 4806 514.95 b/t
2 way remote start keyless entry/security 1 mile range viper 5806 614.96 b/t
2 way remote start keyless entry/security 1 mile range w/LCD screen viper 5706 714.96 b/t
hope this helps!

thank you greatly for the information, especially the info and recommendation on the VSS3001. Like you said, back to the drawing board, or actually message boards, to find out exactly how others did it.
My 2013 Optima SXL is push to start. It can be done using the factory key fob. others have done it and there are videos on youtube. its just that there are a thousand different posts on the message board with everyones different recommendations and it gets confusing. especialy when i only have limited time to find and use internet.
seems like the most common set up is a remote start from avital 4003 or something and then using the Fortin Evo-all bypass. from quick reading that seems to be the majority opinion which will allow the use of factory key fob and the vehicle to continue running when a door or trunk is opened, or even getting in the vehicle and hitting the brake. many of the kia owners recommend against the FLCAN because they say it doesnt allow the vehicle to continue running once a door is opened. some of these posts are older though and maybe the FLCAN has been updated with new firmware or whatever and now supports it?
only features I am really looking for it that it remote starts utilizing the factory key fob and it continues to run when a door/trunk is opened or you get in the vehicle and do something, like hit the brake. i think its silly if you get in the vehicle, hit the brake and the car turns off. yes, its simple to just restart it, but just think its stupid. i did like the viper stuff because it would be nice to control it from my phone (understand this costs a monthly charge). would be nice to be able to start via my phone before i get close (like still at work) and have it warmed up by the time i get to it so i dont have to sit in the parking lot freezing.
any knowledge on fortin evo-all?

Hey Andrew- My name is Justin and i am a part of the Autotech Opertions team at corporate. I have a couple questions for you 1) is the vehicle a automatic or manual transmission? 2) does the vehicle currently have factory security? to test roll the windows down, lock the doors with the factory keyfob, wait 60 seconds then open the door by reaching in the window and pulling the handle. make sure to not have the key in range. this will determine what unit you will need to use and if you need any additional part.
Automatic with Factory Security
VSS3001 will work in that vehicle without any issues, no additional parts are required
DBALL2 with RSR firmware, SmartStart with installation, and a relay (needs to be installed together to get OEM start ability)
Automatice without Factory Security
VSS3001- will need to use an aftermarket hood pin or tilt switch
DBALL2 with RSR firmware, SmartStart with installation, and a relay (needs to be installed together to get OEM start ability)- will need to use an aftermarket hood pin or tilt switch
You will need to use another model by Viper or Compustar that supports safe manual transmission modes. thus not allowing to start the vehicle if the reservation mode has not been set. Also requires some additional labor.
All of the options listed will still enable the vehicle to remain running when the door is open however there is a 45 second timer that starts once the unock command is sent to the vehicle.
Not sure if you have access to a smartphone or tablet being that you are currently deployed but if you can download the Geek Squad App and you will be able to see what is compatible and get pricing quotes for your vehicle.
Hope this helped and thank you for serving!!
