Sub/Amp just installed. Sub stops when driving?

I just got a subwoofer installed and got a new amp. When I first start driving the sub and amp work perfectly fine and sound great. After about 10 minutes of driving, the bass goes out and quits working. When I turn the car off and turn it back on, it works perfectly fine again, but then I drive for ~10mins and it quits on me again. Any suggestions/diagnosis?

Re: Sub/Amp just installed. Sub stops when driving?

so you have a few things that are going on here.  first and easiest to check is settings on your head unit.  is it factory or aftermarket? if it is an aftermarket radio make sure you have bass boost, loud, and any other settings that amplify the signal to the subwoofer.   you have your settings turned up to loud on your amplifier is another possibility.  basically what is happening is your amp is getting to hot and going into protect mode.  the inefficiency of energy is heat so, when you have your settings cranked or not tuned correctly for your amplifier from your head unit, you drive too much power to your amplifier that is causing your energy that is back there to get lost to heat, making your amp go into protect mode.

Protect mode is a way that the amplifier protects itseflf from overheating and ruining transistors, and other things on the main board itself.  2 ways to fix protect mode turn down your settings on your head unit, check your settings on your amplifier, and always make sure you check to see that your amplifer is running close to RMS value not MAX power.

The installer should be able to check the power, ground, remote, and rca's, and might turn down the unit if it is not tuned properly.  bring back the yellow copy to that store that did the original installation so that they can do some warranty work to figure out the problem.  as far as the settings go, i would start there, that is 99.9% of the time the problem.  Remember just because you can turn it up loud doesn't mean that it is effiecient to do so.  best of luck to you, but i would schedule a warranty work with that installtion bay that did the original installation to check it out from there!

sorry got lost in that message.  2 ways to fix the protect mode is turn the car on and off, and/or fix the settings... sorry didn't make that clear on that last post!
