Estimate quote

I went to my local Best Buy to get a estimate quote on a Double Din radio for my 2006 GMC Envoy and I was told by the guy that helped me that I would need Doube DIN Kit and Harness (which I knew already) but he also told me I need an Antenna adaptor and I asked him why they can't use the factory antenna plug and he said something about it being policy incase the installers mess something up........is it really policy to use an Antenna adaptor? or was he tring to sell me something I didn't need?

Re: Estimate quote

What's up, _dude!

Thanks for stopping by to ask your question about your 06 GMC Envoy!  I'm excited to see that you were provided a quote for the parts that were required for your vehicle specific.  I understand your question is surrounding the antenna adapter for your vehicle.  Long story short, yes, you will need the antenna adapter for your radio stations to come in.

Let me dive into why in a little greater detail.  GM ran an antenna plug that is called a "Mini" and all of our radios have the standard connection.  You'll need the adapter 40GM-10.  If you take a look at the picture that is provided on BestBuy.com you'll see the standard connection is what is provided on the left hand side that is at a 90 degree angle.  Your antenna adapter that is plugged into the factory radio is the Mini side that will insert into the left side of that picture.  So all in all, you'll need the mini to standard for an aftermarket radio to work, but thankfully it's only $13.99 for the part.

It's always awesome to have customers stop by to ask questions on what isn't making sense to them, and it'd be my pleasure to help out more if you have any other questions!  We appreciate you registering with the Best Buy forums to ask!  Have a wonderful night!
