Re: Car audio install materials

I had an amp installed but the amp I chose put out interference that wiped out my FM stations so I had to have the tech put it back to stock for now til I can find an amp that will work for my Camaro.  I think best buy now offers an alpine amp that will work and might purchase it in the next couple months(not carried in my store).  what I was wander is: is there a way the tech can just charge me for the part of the installation that includes mounting and tuning the settings part. I have the adaptors that make the connections a snap, the fuse holder, wire for power and connection are already there just not in use.  already eating the cost of the previous amp and want to save if I can

Re: Car audio install materials

jshaf, long time no talk!  Im glad that you were able to get your amplifier installed finally, im am truly sorry to hear about your fm isssues that you have been having with your vehicle also, resulting in the removal of the amplifier.  was it a kicker amplifier that was causing the problems? i know they had a line that was known for the fm reception problems a while ago, but haven't heard of any of those symptoms anymore.  when you went into the best buy for the installation did you pay for the amp install fully?  If you were my customer, and unfortunately, this cannot be across the board, but if you were my customer and you paid for my amp install, i ran all the wires the way that i need to run them, hooked up the amp and it was bad, then i would remove it for free, and probably charge you 1 or 2 customs to throw the new one back in.  2 custom charges after tax here in utah will be 42.72. if it only takes me 15 minutes to swap it out then you will only be charged 1 custom labor charge of 19.99 b/t.  i don't see why the tech wouldn't be able to do that for you.  let me know if i can help you out further.  best of luck!

Re: Car audio install materials

the amp with the issues was bought through the Best buy web site but was one of the companies that sells items on the site but are not best buy. I actually bought another off the best buy site but the new amp is not carried at my store so it is being sent to my store hopefully by the end of the week and have already included the labor with the online purchase, I spoke via email with the tech and he said that he could probably cut me a deal so hopefully he can do a return of the laber and recharge me for the increments like you mentioned.  I buy alot of stuff from best buy and I would say 3/4 things I have installed don't ahve issues but there is always one that bites me in the rear.  Going with the Alpine PDR F50 this time, Alpine has never let me down.  install schedules for sunday if all goes as planned!  thanks for your reply, much appreciated Smiley Happy

AWESOME news! save up for that amp and sub and your really going to be bumping down the road.  right now there is a stellar deal on an alpine mrp-m500, alpine 12" type S subwoofer, our geeksquad installation and subwoofer mount. all for 369.99! your saving 120 dollars, and all you have to purchase is a box which is also on sale for 39.99 saving you 20 dollars also! savings all around.  all that you are left with is 8 AWG wires from 79.99-99.99.  just letting you know Smiley Wink, so maybe you don't have to wait till spring???? hahaha

Re: Car audio install materials

thinking of doing dual subs forward firing, was looking at the Pioneer 12 inch that is on sale for 63.99 and the Kenwood on sale for 49.99.   like the looks of the Pioneer and there specs are fairly close.  I have a Black 2ss Camaro so the Pioneer would match asthetically with the dark interior and the color of the enclosure I intend to purchase.  thought I might get the two subs now along with another purchase I will be making here soon and roll it all in to a 400 dollar 12 month financing then purchase the rest in the spring when I am gathering everything for the actual install.

Personally i would be careful about matching 2 different subs with one another.  they are most of the time going to have a different build, and different sounds (most of the time).  im glad to see that you are matching within the specs, but IMO I would just stick with putting the same 2 subs in a box so that you don't one or another sub taking more power from the other, for some unseen reason.  other than that it does sound like you have everything else in order.  best of luck to you, and great choice to put it on financing.  I always hate seeing people settle for what they can afford, instead of just using our no interest free financing to get what they really wanted in the first place!
