Re: NS-NAV01 Map Updates

Hello Wiltre2,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

Currently map updates are only available through Geek Squad at your local Best Buy store.  You should be notified via your GPS device when new updates are available and Geek Squad can assist you in ensuring that your software is the latest available.

We will certainly take your suggestion for online updates under consideration for the future.

Regards,
John

Re: NS-NAV01 Map Updates

There AREN'T updates for this GPS.  I'm going to guess there never will be.  Only way to get different maps is to install something like iGo8.  Or if you have an Android phone, you can toss out the NAV01 altogether and just buy Copilot.

Re: NS-NAV01 Map Updates

Right, this is just on a similar subject. My parents were recently in the states and while there decided to purchase me a gps unit for use back in New Zealand. They specifically asked the salesman for a gps that would work in New Zealand, he assured us that the NS-NAV01 would be ideal. Now that we have turned the system on there are no New Zealand maps present, the manuals supplied are useless and assume that whoever uses it is american and has no need to worry in regards to getting new maps. I visited the Navteq map database and looked at portable device for map updates and it isnt even in their list of devices. There is one bestbuy in the country, 10 hours worth of driving, they don't even have this product.  Is there anyway to download maps for New Zealand and get it working here, or did your salesperson give us a load of bs?

Re: NS-NAV01 Map Updates

Is there map or firmware updates for the NS-NAV01? This is a yes or no question. If yes, where do I get it and how much will it cost me? This product has been out for approximately 2 years and no updates on Insignia's website. I'm thinking this is a disposable unit. Garmin, Magellan and TomTom provide updates on there websites. What's the deal?

Re: NS-NAV01 Map Updates

I think it's fairly safe to assume at this point that there will never be firmware or map updates for these units.  I know for a fact that Insignia didn't actually manufacture them.  They brand labeled this hardware, and wrote software for it.  They probably actually stopped development at that point.

The good news is that the unit runs Windows CE.  You can look around on gpsunderground, and find instructions on how to put different software on the unit with a different SD card.  The maps still aren't as up-to-date as Garmin's, but you'll get a couple of updates per year.
