Hello Appleipod and Welcome to the Best Buy forums

As an Elite plus member myself I know thew joys of buying new tech and being a loyal customer. That being said its discouraging that you have ran into this issue with our third party partner TRE. From your last return you would have received a prompt explaining your next purchase item would not be able to be returned there is no getting around this prompt without acknowledging it.

Sadly Best Buy will not be able to lift your ban with (TRE) if you wish to see about lifting your ban please contact TRE for further support.

Thank you for joining the Best Buy forums, although we wish it were under better circumstances, please know how grateful we are for you being an Elite member, and more importantly for the time you spent sharing with us about this exchange.  We are very sorry your unopened box was not able to be returned, and the chance to provide some assistance to you is greatly appreciated.

 

Our community is full of knowledgeable, and helpful members who can provide some insight until a moderator gets the chance to swing by.  Our Superuser @poprex911 is not exception to this case, and I would have to underscore his comments to you.  The Retail Equation (TRE) is a third party service that many retailers, including Best Buy, utilize to help track returns/exchanges in an effort to prevent losses and keep prices low for our customers.

 

If you haven’t already, email or call TRE to obtain your copy of your return activity report, both options can be found in the link provided.  Please have readily available your driver’s license and the TRE transaction ID number, which should have been provided to you on your last return attempt.  You would need to dispute any activity you feel shouldn’t be on your report with TRE, but please know you are more than welcome to keep us posted if you need anything else!

Are you people deliberately trying to go the way of circuit city and compusa?  I bought an apple pencil and returned it the next day with receipt and unopened.  I returned it because i read apple might be coming out with a new model soon.  The previous returns shown on my return info was almost a year ago on Oct 8 2016 for $50 and only two other returns are shown also in 2016 one for $30 and one for $10 - and now they tell me that I'm banned from returning anything for a year, which of course means i just stay the heck away from your dump and spread the news.

Furthermore your salespeople keep touting the return policy telling me that i have 15 days to return something if i don't like it.  Not even a warning first!

If you were banned by TRE, then the prior return you had to sign something on the pin pad saying you understood that was the last return you could make for a year. That or someone else signed it who returned something you bought (like a family member if you sent them in for a return, for example).
I am not a forum moderator nor voice of corporate. One of the corporate moderators will be with you as soon as they can for the official response from Best Buy. The forums work on a first come, first serve basis and it can take a while for a response.

I am the only one shopping there - and I have shopped there for many years - and I signed no such thing, unless it was hidden in the fine print someplace.  Looking around the internet I don't see anyone else who was banned saying they ever received a warning either.

Well, that's what we're talking about.  Banned from returning any future items for one year without any prior warning.  It would be another thing if the prompt said - you are returning too many items and if you return one more within - whatever time frame - you may then be banned from returning future items for a period of one year,  but there was no warning, just a "prompt" out of the blue saying you can't return anything else for a year...from "your third party partner", something that the Best Buy reps keep repeating as if they are not really responsible for their hired "third party partner" in India, if that's where it is, or what it does!

I showed this BestBuy banning and the details to the manager of my favorite local BB store today.  He said it was ridiculous and made no sense because he has seen people with very long lists of returns.  He thought it was some kind of scam, especially because of the barely intelligible Indian feller who answered the phone when I called the number on the banning message that was on my receipt (which I got at the other nearby BB store - and the manager there was also sympathetic but he said he had nothing to do with it). This manager said that he can over-ride this ban and if I buy additional items at his store he will be able to let me return it.

That is he has seen people with very long lists of returns who never got banned.  Also he agreed that it is true that his sales people always tell the customers that they can buy things and then they have 15 days to decide if they want to keep it.

 

I’ll try that 800-bestbuy number tomorrow and see what’s there.
