Got called names by Gary the manager of Best Buy Of Catawba Valley in Hickory NC

[ Edited ]

Today I went to return a QuickBooks software and Bamboo pen at this store. The lady in customer service told me I wasn’t able to get refund due to it being over the fifteen day return policy. When she went to get her override the manager named Gary walked over, he has red hair and glasses, I asked him politely if there was any way to get a refund since none of my items had been used and proceeded to explain my situation I work full time and go to school full time and had prior experience in retail and know that sometimes they will allow a refund within certain circumstances. The entire time I genuinely told him my story, he was grinning and smiling and obviously not listening to a single word and told me sometimes the general manager would refund but he wasn’t there and probably wouldn’t any way. What kind of professional answer is that and on top of that, your smart little grin was frustrating as a customer. I told him it seemed like he was getting joy out of this and he proceeded to tell me “no you’re just being rude.” Excuse me? I then told him I would be contacting corporate as well as the General Manager Mt. Robert {removed per forum guidelines} in regards to managers now calling customers names while they inquire with questions. I am super disappointed. Not only was I called names while returning a portion of over a thousand dollar purchase, but now I am stuck having to spend 300 bucks via gift card at a store I have zero respect for. I had to walk out I was so frustrated. Best Buy poor judgement on management decisions, again I’ve worked in retail for five years prior to switching careers and I would have blushed at the thought of calling a customer rude. Who does that? I would love if somebody contact me to attempt to make this right. Again, it wasn’t about getting a refund, it’s about having respect and value for your customers and where they spend their hard earned dollars. I think Gary needs a new job.

I don’t see anywhere in your story where you were called names. When were you called names and what names were you called. It sounds to me like you were able to get a gift card back out of policy.

I was blatantly called rude. Which I was not being, and quite frankly I have never left a corporate complaint, so unless your management, or someone directly from Best Buy, thanks but you dont have to spend the time in this thread.

I would argue you’re being rude now so I can see where the manager was coming from.

I agree with SPOPATT, I would probably even consider it rude that you seemed to expect them to override the return rules just because you think you deserve it. I like that they try and treat everyone the same, the rules are there for a reason.

Hello, Lestephens,

Welcome to the Best Buy Forums. We appreciate you joining our online community, and I hope you will find this platform a useful place to learn about new tech, interact with other members, and request support from our team of moderators. It’s always nice to hear from our customers, although I certainly wish the interaction surrounding your recent return had been handled differently. We expect our Blue Shirts, especially those in a position of authority, to treat our customers in a polite and professional manner. Learning your experience may not have mirrored that expectation, is not the news we'd hope for.

Best Buy does have a Return & Exchange Promise, which we are always willing to work within. That said, we can’t guarantee that exceptions to the Terms will be made. As a consumer myself, I fully understand that things may come up, which may prevent returns from being made during the return period. I’m glad to know that you were at least able to receive gift cards for the merchandise, although I realize you had been requesting a refund to the original form of payment.

We are constantly looking for ways we can improve and serve our customers better. In this case, the outcome of the way the return transaction was processed won’t change, but we can definitely connect with the general manager of the Best Buy in Catawba, in effort to ensure they are aware of your experience, as well as document your feedback here at our Corporate Headquarters. If we can offer our assistance in this way, please send a private message with your full name, email address, and telephone number. To get started, just select the darker blue box to the far right of my name below.

Sincerely,

Sarah|Social Media Specialist | Best Buy® Corporate
