no offense but consumer reports is the last place anyone should go for tv advice. And any noted site would never rank the passive lg set as the best 3d set out there not even close, that goes to panny and samsung 3d sets..

When you make a statement, it should be backed up with facts. Let me show you just a few… Plz tell me none of these below is a noted tech site you can recognize.

LOL !! That was funny for some reason. You kind of sound like me. It is true, opinions must be backed up with facts on this forum.  I have one question though, why hasn't anyone mentioned Samung's SUPER OLED TV sticking out of the ground on top a a 5 inch pipe that looked really ugly at CES. The only time it was on a stand was during the presentation but at the booth, the ugly Pipe thingy made the TV looks like a huge sticker.

Re: 3D TV. Samsung, LG?

I will say LG made huge steps this last year alone in plasma tech (the cheaper "value" tv tech).

They dropped their black levels significantly, which was the one major knock everyone had on LG. they also produced a solid tv last year with very little problems. Which was basically the ONLY big manufacturer of plasmas that didn't have major problems in their line.

Re: 3D TV. Samsung, LG?

browndve, haha pcworld an pcmag you can not be serious???  They are like consumer reports.  Cnet is a great site for reviews I will give that you BUT we are talking about the best 3D tv not just best Matte finished LCD TV's. LOL please read before posting.  We are talking about the BEST 3D TV Set and those honors go to Sharp Elite, Panny and Samsung tv's and Sony..

Like I have stated Panny and Samsung both EVERY YEAR get nod for the BEST TV's not LG!  Except this year Sharp Elite won for BEST 3D TV.

So if you want me to back up from CNET.COM on who the BEST 3D TV's are then here you go:

http://reviews.cnet.com/best-high-definition-tvs/

Please show me where they rank the LG Passive 3D set as the best?  I think an LG made the ten spot... LOL far from #1.

LG has come a long way but still far from the BEST 3D TV out there....

And here is 2010 just incase when he said a year ago he meant 2010 not 2011 in which the Panny VT25 was the winner

I can see where your coming from but when a LG is %40 or less of the price of the panny its something to think about.

Re: 3D TV. Samsung, LG?

Out of curiosity, You guys think OLED TVs could be real this time?

Last time Sony came out with them in 07, it was so anti climatic.

Re: 3D TV. Samsung, LG?

Exactly…I bought a Samsung 3D Tv because of brand quality. And I think I paid little extra money for that "Brand Quality". However, it turned out I didn't have to. Yeah, maybe when it comes to smart phones Samsung never fails to impress but when it comes to televisions, it they certainly have fell behind.

Re: 3D TV. Samsung, LG?

grapesoda, where do you get that LG is 40% cheaper then Panny.  If you compare Panny's Top of the line with LG's low end line then sure but that's not really a fair comparison..

Panny's top of the line TC-P55VT30 which is $2150 no glasses on Bestbuy's webpage.  This TV blows away the LG . Even if you bought 4 pairs of Xpand 103's for 3D @ $62/pair you are at $2398.

Lets Look at LG's 55LW6500 which Best Buy just had a SALE on it for $1900 and comes with 4 pair of glasses.

Remember this was a sale price.  Panny's is not a sale price.  When it's not on sale I the LG is around $2200 or more

And I don't think the W6500 is even LG's top dog I don't remember off hand. I think the LW9800 is which is probably a $3500 TV in the 55" screen size.  But don't quote me on that.

Far from a 40% discount you quoted. But remeber you are getting a MUCH better TV from the Panny..

US appliance just had the TC-P65VT30 on sale with a pair of glasses for $2399, I have seen the TC-P55VT30 on SALE for $1899.

I think your 40% off is a really really high...  Price wise they are pretty much the same price when not on Sale even including the price of 4 pairs of 3D glasses for panny to make it fair.

Re: 3D TV. Samsung, LG?

I think OLED's are for real this time But are just so expensive and will be years before they come down in price for people to afford.  Also they are having an issue with the Blue which is not lasting long.  So only time will tell.

I hope they are coming because they are a beautiful TV...
