personally, i would go with the toshiba. it matches the gateway in terms of processing performance, but it has a substantially longer battery life. also, i've found that carrying a 17" notebook around all day on campus or where ever really isn't comfortable.

The Gateways screen is17"!!! and it has 4GB DDR3
I'd say as a computer the Gateway is much better. When you add in Toshibas 7 hr battery and one of the lowest laptop failure rates in the industry, the Toshiba wins.

I own and have had good experience with Gateway, but in this case I'd go with the Toshiba.
