BEST BUY CREDIT CARD thru HSBC

Today, I closed my Best Buy credit card thru HSBC.  I have been a loyal Best Buy customer and would like to continue shopping at Best Buy however my relationship with Best Buy is in jeopardy because of HSBC's Customer Service.

HSBC made changes to their system causing my username to be lost.  I tried to re-register and received the following error message: "The user name you entered has already been assigned.  Please select a different user name."  I called HSBC and was able to confirm user name is still registered to me but I am no longer able to use it.  Why should I have to re-register because of their system issues?

HSBC is unable to process same-day payments without a $15 fee.  Why should I need to pay a $15 fee in addition to my minimum or full payment in order to make my payment on time when my payment is not due on a holiday or weekend?

HSBC requires 2 or more business days from the day you are making a payment in order for a payment to post on time.  Why should I need to plan 2 days ahead if I am paying HSBC directly thru their website or over the phone?

MESSAGE TO BEST BUY: HSBC is not a Bank that you should continue doing business with.

Re: BEST BUY CREDIT CARD thru HSBC

HSBC is also costing Best Buy my business.

Somehow, despite the fact that I pay all of my bills the same day at the same time, my online payment to my Best Buy card was missed.  I guess I must have failed to click that last ok button?  I received an email 4 days after the due date informing me that my payment was overdue and I should make a payment to avoid additional fees (to the $39 fee already charged).  If HSBC can send me an email 4 days after it's too late to fix, why can't I be sent a reminder while I can do something about it?  Why can't I setup automatic payments like I can with every other card in my wallet?

Regardless, I will be paying off this account and going back to my normal credit card for entertainment purchases.  And without the financing offers, I will be buying a lot more electronics and media online and from a large chain store I am apparently not allowed to mention by name.  I already bought a new A/V receiver from an online shop that I am also not allowed to mention and a new bluray player from the previously unmentioned chain store.

Best Buy occasionally has some good deals, but they aren't worth risking my credit rating over.

Re: BEST BUY CREDIT CARD thru HSBC

I am about to close my Best Buy card through HSBC as well.  I oftened used the card to take advantage of the 0% financing.  I needed to use the card for an urgent purchase.  I had a 12% discount coupon and was counting on the 0% for 18 months.  I pay the remaining balance  on my card last Friday using the rush payment.  Come Saturday my balance is $0, so I go into the store to make a purchase...my card is denied.

I am sent over to customer service to the "finance people".  I am told by the employee that my card is probably deactivated if I haven't used it in the last year.  He tried to get me to apply for a new one.  I had a balance and was making payments regularly so I didn't think that was possible.  He didn't want to call in and check, but I made him do so.  Sure enough, the guy was an idiot and my account was still active.  Apparently though, even though my account balance is $0 it takes 7-14 days for it to actually go through to the bank and become available credit.  Unbelievable!  I threw my $2K worth of merchandise down and stormed out.

I call and email HSBC today.  When I called, I get what is clealry a foreign, outsourced employee.  His English was very poor and I could clearly tell he was reading his responses off a website.  I even asked him to clarify and he said that is all the site is telling me.  He told me it takes 7-10 days to verify funds in the bank.  I realized talking to him was a waste of time so I email HSBC.  I get an email response saying this:

"A checkhold is placed on a customer's account to allow for funds verification
before the open to buy is released back to the account.  Please allow 12 days
from the payment posting date to release the check hold from the account."

12 Days!  The payment was placed on the 12th as a rush payment, 12 days would put me at the 24th.  My 12% coupon and the 0% for 18 months expire on the 21st.  Even if I still wanted to make the purchase with the awful credit card, it would be beyond the deal which was the whole reason I was making the purchase at Best Buy to begin with.  I am canceling my HSBC card and possibly never doing business with Best Buy again because of this.  I was looking for a way to apply for the Chase card, but all it does is take me to HSBC.  They are a horrible company with terrible customer service.  Best Buy lost a $2K sale because of their credit provider.  They may also lose many years to come of purchases from me as well.  I am a Rewards Premier Silver member after all.

Re: BEST BUY CREDIT CARD thru HSBC

So my message was deleted about my issue with the Best Buy Card through HSBC?

I guess because it is linked to Best Buy and it really was a failure in that relationship?

Does not look favorable to Best Buy so delete?

vmettre,

If it is the thread Re:  BEST BUY CREDIT CARD thru HSBC it is under BestBuy.com and has been assigned to a CC.

ANYTHING THAT I POST IS MEANT TO BE A HELPFUL OPINION, IN NO WAY IS IT A DIRECT RESPONSE FROM BEST BUY OR GEEK SQUAD.

Re: BEST BUY CREDIT CARD thru HSBC

I also have a horror story about hsbc when I registered for online payments through hsbc I added an extra number to my account when my payment was rejected I was assessed a bounced check charge! Bounced check? A check was never written and my account was never accessed. They saw I was trying to pay off my account early and decided to try and get some free money out of me. After several calls to customer no service I was able to get the fee reduced by half, still an unacceptable outcome.  hsbc said that if it wasn't a valid fee they would remove it . So my next question was how often do they post invalid fees to accounts, my answer was a dial tone where the "service " rep hung up on me.needless to say I will never do business with hsbc again and I am filing a compliant with the FTC which I recommend to all who have issues with giant crappy banks. We should not be sending our dollars to china anymore than we have to. Have spent over 20 thousand dollars with best buy in the last 8 years and can honestly say 95% was using a zero % program that will now end. I will only spend what I can use cash for so this should drastically change bb's bottom line if we all took this stance maybe BEST BUY would finally take some interest and and dump the communist hongkong shanghai bank of china(HSBC)!

Re: BEST BUY CREDIT CARD thru HSBC

I've been with BB a long time as well and am getting tired of dealing with HSBC cryptic responses. On 15 Mar, I made a purchase at BB using my card for $83.99 and knew I had to cover the entire balance when the next statement came out because the purchased was not connected to any credit plan/promotion (i.e.., 90, 120, etc.). When my 22 March statement (with a 14 Apr due date) came out I had three entries listed in the credit plan information--the $83.99 (no plan or same as cash promotion),  $112.53 (Exp 30 Apr 10) and $1350.64 (Exp Dec 2012). So I do the math and figure out that I have to cover the minimum payment plan for all three purchases ($16.00) plus remaining bal of the non promotion charge ($83.99) plus extra to the next promotion that was going to expire on 30 Apr 10. Total payment was $125. Well here's what the geniuses at HSBC did. They reduced each of the balances for the three charges by the required mins ($1.67, $13.50 and $.83 for a tot $16) . Everything according to plan up to this point. The promotional payoff Amts were now 112.53 (exp 30 Apr), 1350.64 (Exp Dec 2012) and $83.99 (no promotion--due before next statement right/). I still had $109 remaining to be applied to remaining balance of the non-promotional item--right? Wrong! When my Apr 22 statement came out, I found that HSBC had applied the extra $109 to the promotion that was going to expire 8 days later (30 Apr). They didn't apply that amount to cover the non-promotion item ($83.99). So now I get slapped a $1.67 finance charge because I didn't payoff the non-promotion charge ($83.99). You might want pay care attention to the section that covers how they apply your minimum payment and whatever extra amount you include. Seems they first apply payments to remaining balances with the highest interest (in my case $112.53 and $83.99 with 24.24% ) and then use the expiration date of the same as cash offer. Since the $83.99 purchase didn't have a listed expiration date--they applied all the $109 to the promotion that had the next expiration (30 Apr). The only way I could have avoided this was to call HSBC and tell them to apply the $109 to balance that wasn't under a promotion. I know this was long-winded but I wanted tell everyone that HSBC might listen to you, but expect any positive feedback or support from them. They have found a way to confuse its customers with vague customer conditions and it's unfortunate that BB chooses to continue their relationship with this financial institution. :smileysad:

Re: BEST BUY CREDIT CARD thru HSBC

Hi jimiah14,

I am very sorry to hear that you had an experience similar to Jeremy but I would be happy to see if there is something I can do to help!

I was able to look into this a little and it appears that you ended up using another credit card for this purchase.  If that is the case, you would have to work with the pertaining bank regarding any possible financing offers.  However, if you could send me a private message with your information - by clicking on the “private message” envelope in the upper right-hand corner of the page and then composing a new message to my username “SARAH-BBY” (when signed in), I would be happy to look into this further and see if there are any other options we can consider!  :smileywink:

I hope to hear from you!

Thank you and have a great day!

I had the same issue.  The only difference is, when I was notified the payment didn't go through, I paid the $13 minimum (I thought) payment 4 days after it was due, set up more auto payments for $13, and subsequently got hit with 2 more $39 late fees the next 2 months, on top of the original, b/c my minimum payment was no longer $13.  When I was finally notified by phone of my overdue balance, they removed 1 late fee, but wouldn't do anymore.  I find it ridiculous to be penalized twice for 1 mistake, and this inconsiderate treatment will result in the loss of all my future business for Best Buy.
