Repair Issues

I got a computer in Dec. of 2007 and a digital camera in Aug 2008.  I purchased an extended warranty  for both.  The laptop  warranty included a free replacement battery and ac/adaptor.  The camera warranty included refurbishment to original condition or in-store refund.

Recently (about 3 weeks ago) I went in to the Best Buy in San Francisco to get my replacement battery and drop of the camera for refurbishment.  I dropped them both off, got one form (for the laptop) and nothing for the camera.  I'm hitting myself for not having a form for the camera as I type this.  After dropping them off I figured that what the geek squad agent said would be what would happen.  I could not have been more wrong.  I was told that my laptop battery would take a week and the camera would be ready in a couple of days.

2 weeks into this experience I decided to call into best buy, SF, and speak with the Geek Squad.  The phone rang for 5 minutes....no answer.  I back and wanted to speak to any customer service person and as soon as I was connected I told him my problem and before I had a chance to say that I had already tried to call the geek squad department at the store, he transferred me back to the never ending ring tone.  I called back asked him to look up the status and after explaining the situation to him, he told me that both "would take just a few more days."

In the end, this phone call will put me at a total of 8 best buy people for the day and 59 minutes (based on my call-timers on my verizon phone). The first person was a customer service rep at the SF store who told me that Geek Squad was very busy and that he would take my contact info down and the the geek squad would call me back as if I was next in line at the store.  I never got a call.  The second person I talked to today was another customer service rep at the store. Again I had to tell him the story, ask that he not transfer me to geek squad since  a call never gets answered there.  He did put me on hold, and then picked up again from geek squad.  He put me on the phone with a geek squad member and that is when all heck (this forum would not allow stronger language) broke loose.

No record of my camera repair, no record of my laptop battery replacement.

After some haggling he found my camera order and told me it takes three weeks to fix.  I then asked him if it should be ready this week and he then told me that no one had started working on it yet.  Aggravated, and knowing that we have not gotten to the computer part of the problem, I decided to end the camera portion of the discussion.

The laptop was a whole different story.  Geek Squad was person number 3 of the day

Since my laptop was covered an extended warranty, he said that I should check with 1888BestBuy.  Thats when I talk to someone in the first tier of customter service at 1888BestBuy.  Person number 4.  She had no idea what was going on.  Thats when I got transfered to the fancy "consumer relations."  She was now person number 5.   She was a great help: asked me for the phone number used to place the order, some other info, and we finally found it.  She took down a complaint against the store (her idea, not mine) and transferred me to parts with next day shipping.  The parts guy is person number 6.  He then told me he only got the order for the battery and not the ac adaptor.  (we were so close to being done).  I had to be transferred back to the consumer relations, ask him to please make sure that he gets the order for the AC adaptor in addition to the battery.  He was person number 7.  He then transferred me back to the parts department and that guy would be person number 8.

this could all have been avoided if the person that took in the both repairs would have done the job right.  I have his employee number and would gladly give it up, should anybody at best buy want it.

Re: Repair Issues

Hello bradyk,

Repairs are a rarely welcome prospect, so I can imagine how frustrated you must have felt if you experienced any difficulty obtaining status updates regarding your digital camera.  Your disappointment is understandable, especially if there was any additional confusion around the replacement battery and AC adapter for your laptop computer.  Although I do not know why you would have needed to go to such great lengths to obtain information regarding either issue, I apologize if you found this to be the case.

I was pleased to discover, however, that your local store has been in touch with you since your initial post and was able to assist you with your camera repairs.  Additionally, I’m glad to hear that an agent within our Consumer Relations department was able to help you order a replacement AC adapter.

If you are in need of any additional assistance please do not hesitate to let me know.  You can send me a private message by clicking on either my signature below or the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

Re: Repair Issues

*sigh*

I was told by the last week that I would be getting my battery and ac adaptor with next day shipping.  The AC adaptor showed up, but no battery yet....Obviously you have my correct address, since I got the adaptor.  so why no battery?

Re: Repair Issues

Thank you Arron,

I wanted to reply in the community forum so that folks know that this issue has been resolved.

I would hope that bestbuy learns from experiences like mine, and that they realize all of this could have been avoided if only certain steps were taken in the beginning of the ordeal.

If problems do arrize, there is no reason why customers shouldn't recive this kind of customer serivce from the very begnining.

Thanks again

Brady

Re: Repair Issues

The Battery was delivered, but it is not the right size and therefore does not fit.  The numbers on the back of the new battery are very different, indicating that it is for a different model.

Suggestions?

Full refund of my purchase from Best Buy?

Re: Repair Issues

For community record - Aaron just informed me that "I regret to inform you that you would need to purchase a replacement through the manufacturer or another third-party retailer and seek reimbursement under your service plan coverage"

-------------------------------------

Here is my respones to Aaron.

------------------------------------

Aaron, Perhaps the battery that was sent to me is considered comparable, becuase it is not VGP-BPS9A/S. The back of the battery that was shipped to me read s "VGP-BPS2C/S" Please responed at your quickest conviences as we are coming up on a month that this has been an issue on the best buy community forum.

Re: Repair Issues

The most recent battery that was sent is the same as the first battery that was incorrect.  (not to mention that the battery looks like a refurbishment as there are nicks all over it)  Therefore, it does not fit.

Over to you Aaron ......

Re: Repair Issues

Brady,

If neither battery was able to resolve the problem, then I would strongly encourage you to purchase a replacement through the manufacturer and seek reimbursement under your service plan coverage.  As I have previously mentioned in private messages, you can do so by sending us the following information:

•    A legible copy of your PSP/GSBTP brochure
•    A legible copy of your original purchase receipt
•    A legible copy of the receipt showing the purchase of the replacement part

This information can then be mailed to the following address:

Best Buy
PSP/GSBTP Repair Reimbursements (C-8)
7601 Penn Ave South
Richfield, MN 55423

Alternatively, you may wish to bring your computer and the batteries you were provided to your local Best Buy® store for further assistance – an on-site manager may be able to provide you another solution.
