Best Buy refused price match

Hi all

my first post here.

i was at my local best buy (in IL) today to purchase a sony 46" lcd tv.

it is listed at $1299 at best buy.

frys electronics has the same model on sale for $897

so i talked to the sales girl, confirmed with her that the item is in stock and she called the frys store to confirm the price and the stock. she confirmed the price, stock and she told me to wait until her manager approves the price match.

after like 5min she came back and told me that she can't do a price match because the price is too low and they don't want to lose money.

i'm confused here. it is the first time i'm hearing anything like this. so i requested to talk to her manager. although she was reluctant about calling her manager, she finally paged her manager to come to the floor.

when the manager came by she told me the same thing that the price is too low for them. i asked them if she could show me the policy where it says something like that but she didn't give me a correct answer. she then continued to tell me that she has to check whether the item is brand new and sometimes frys has refurbished items, whether the item is in stock, whether or not the item is a doorbuster.

i told her that the sales girl called the frys store like 5min ago and confirmed all this. it is in their sales ad too and it is not a doorbuster.

she wouldn't believe me and continued to say that frys sometimes sell refurb items at that price and she wouldn't be able to price match, at which point i left the store with complete disappoinment.

i'm really disappointed with this manager/store :smileysad:

i went to bestbuy because it is coser to my home and that's where i go for any electronic shopping. frys is like 30min away from here otherwise i'd have gone there today itself and bought the tv.

thank you for reading my post

Re: Best Buy refused price match

Normally there could be some reason to prevent the store from performing the PM, but it looks like you covered everything. The only thing I can think of that could've hampered it is if it was avaliable in limited quantities. You are correct, though: it is impossible for a price to be "too low" if all other requirements are met. I believe the manager about them not wanting to lose money, but that's not a valid reason to deny the PM.

Re: Best Buy refused price match

Good afternoon jasonb -

Welcome to the Community!  It appears that you have covered most everything that needs to occur to obtain a price match, with the exception of clearance items.  If all the criteria of the price match was met as you have stated, then the store should have matched the price.

As mentioned by Nokia, a price being too low should never be a consideration of a price match.  At this time, I would like to offer my assistance in determining why this was not met, as well as possibly help you obtain that price match.  Please see the private message I have sent you for further details.  You can check your private messages by first ensuring you are logged into the forums, then clicking the envelope in the upper right hand corner.

Thank you!
